Tuesday, 24th September at Wodson Park SG12 0UQ;
Herts Senior Cup, first round; kick off 7.45pm.
This will be our first ever meeting with London Lions. The Spartan South Midlands League side defy their name by playing at Arkley in the south of Hertfordshire. They had a comfortable looking 3-0 win over Biggleswade United on Saturday and are currently sixth in the league table with six wins and four defeats.
We are looking to snap out of a run that has seen us go winless in September. That said, Paul Halsey may well rest some first team squad members and promote some of the younger and fringe members of his wider squad. In any event admission prices have been reduced.
Should the scores be level at ninety minutes there will be no extra time and the tie will be decided by a penalty shoot-out. For the winners there will be a second round home game with either Royston Town or Welwyn Garden City.
It would appear that this will be London Lions first participation in the Senior Cup. For us however it will be our 244th game in the competition not counting abandonments. We have won the cup on five occasions but not since 1954. Ours is the only name to have appeared in the final in three different centuries. Is this the year we change that to become a side that has won it in three different centuries?
Get along to Wodson Park on Tuesday evening to see if we set off on the road to achieving that.
