This match provides what may be the last chance for a while to enjoy a whole game under lights in relative warmth. It matches us against Royston Town for a place in the quarter final of the county’s Senior Cup. Ware came through the first round with a 4-1 home win over London Lions whilst Royston beat Welwyn Garden City 3-1, also at home.

We have met in this competition five times previously with Ware taking the honours in three of those. The first of those meetings was in 1950 when the game was abandoned due to fog with Ware 5-2 up. The rearranged tie then went our way by 4-0 a week later. Back then Ware were in the Spartan League and Royston played in the Herts County League Division Two.

Things have changed more recently and the Crows have enjoyed success in gaining promotion to the Southern League Premier Division. Despite sitting currently in one of the relegation places they are on paper favourites in this game. That said the county cup in its early stages does not have the same status as in earlier years so both sides may make changes to their squads.

For Ware, manager Paul Halsey will certainly be prioritising the league game at Kings Langley which takes place on Friday evening. Thursday training will at most be limited being so close to an important fixture. Will the senior cup game be treated as a training exercise or will players be rested to avoid the risk of injury?

The only way to find out is to be at Wodson Park for the game. Admission is a very reasonable £5 (£2.50 for concessions) and the bar and tea bar will be open.
