We renew acquaintance with the Heathens after a break of over seventeen years. Our scorers in the last game back in 2007 remind us of what is now a bygone era at the club. Scott Neilson with two goals, John Frendo, Chris Ellerbeck and Paul Burton were all on the score sheet as our opponents were soon to return to Step 5.

They have now come back as champions of the Hellenic League, continuing their form into this season. Early results took them to the top of the table though after last week’s home defeat to Barton they have dropped to eighth but with several games in hand on those above them.

They will want to make up for last week’s upset so we will have to be at our best to bring anything back from Wilks Park. In attempting that Paul Halsey has signed midfielder George Ironton and defender Jack Grosvenor both of whom were in our colours last season with George returning for his third spell with Ware. We welcome them back and expect to see them in the squad for this game.

From past experience parking is limited at Wilks Park so get there early.

Meanwhile in Ware on Sunday there are three youth games for you. Kicking off at 10am are the under-16s who face AC Finchley in the Herts Cup. At midday we have the under-17s facing Enfield Town in the League Plate followed at 2pm by the under-15s who meet Welwyn Garden City in a league game. Entry is free and the tea bar and club room will be open from 8.30.
