This Saturday finds us at home to promotion chasing Real Bedford. We have only met once before when we drew 1-1 in Bedford back in late September. The temptation is therefore to say that this will be their first visit to Wodson Park.
Well, yes and no. Under their previous name of simply Bedford they were members of the Spartan South Midlands League in which they met Wodson Park FC. To the best of my knowledge those games were played on the pitch surrounded by the athletics track and, I think, post-dated the time when Wodson Park FC ground shared with us.
Since those days they have been infused with cash from their chairman’s bitcoin interests and have won two league championships on the trot as they moved from Step 6 to Step 4. The aim is the Premier League but more immediately a third successive championship. Berkhamsted stand in the way of that and for one game at least so do we but our task is a hard one.
Since September’s draw the Pirates have come into form. They have won ten of thirteen league games and lost only one, 3-2 at Kings Langley. We’ll have our work cut out and they’ll have good support, success having boosted their following significantly.
You can be there too but if you can’t make it to Wodson Park you can still pick up commentary on the game from Pete Hill and Symon Allemandy at 90minuteslivefootball.mixlr.com/events/3955637 starting from 2.55pm.
There are three youth games at Wodson Park on Sunday. Our under-13s meet Chelmsford City in their league plate competition at 10am; the under-14s play Cockfosters at midday and the under-17s face Cheshunt at 2pm. The club room and tea bar will be open throughout and, of course, entry is free.
