Warrington & Appleton Provide Showcase

Before Warrington Town hosted Harrogate Railway Athletic on Saturday, two local junior teams provided the crowd with an entertaining game of football.

Warrington Town Juniors Under 10’s B team hosted Appleton Boys Under 10’s B Team on the Cantilever Park pitch at 12:30pm in the opening fixture in the Warrington Junior League.

Both sides played a great game of football with the hosts taking an early 1-0 lead. Appleton drew level just before the stroke of half time which sent the sides into the break all square.

In the final few minutes, Warrington grabbed a winner to the delight of players and parents and gave the Under 10’s the perfect start to the season.

After the game a small presentation took place for the man of the match award. The 2 teams were then given the honour of walking onto the Cantilever Park pitch once more with the senior players ahead of kick off for the Evo-Stik NPL First Division North fixture.

Finally a penalty shoot out took place at half time were club mascot Ollie The owl joined in the fun. He was in goal as Warrington won the shoot out 7-6.

Community development officer James Standing said “It was a great event and the children had a great day. I have had some positive comments from both sets of parents and coaches as we look to develop this into a regular matchday event.”

The club would like to thank the parents and coaches who stayed behind after the junior game to support the first team and we hope to see you all again soon.
