Newbold calls time on lengthy career at men's level, making this weekend's fixture against Didcot the last 90.
After an extraordinary journey spanning over 25 years, Martyn Newbold gracefully steps away from the starting eleven, leaving an indelible legacy etched in the annals of local football. From his early days as a player with Warborough and Headington Amateurs to his triumphant reign as a coach with Benson, Crowmarsh, and Wallingford Town, Martyn's impact has been nothing short of profound.
Transitioning seamlessly from player to coach, Martyn's strategic brilliance and unwavering commitment propelled him to unparalleled success. With an impressive tally of five league titles and six out of eight final victories under his belt, Martyn's coaching prowess shone brightly, elevating each team he led to new heights of achievement.
As Martyn bids farewell to the starting eleven and returns to the touchline, let us reflect on the countless victories, the unwavering dedication, and the enduring legacy he leaves behind. Thank you, Martyn, for your decades of tireless devotion to the beautiful game. Your influence will continue to inspire our squad and all the lads will miss you on the pitch next season.
A personal thank you from the Gaffer :
" Martyn has been a brilliant player for us this season, a natural leader, and from our first game away to Kingston we quickly developed a great relationship. We love football, that's why we turn up every week and work hard for each other. He has been imperative to the squad's success and we have all learned a lot from the North Berks General. Sad to see him hang up his boots on Saturdays, it's safe to say he's going out on a high as he probably has goal of the season under his belt with a left foot showstopper of a volley against Sutton earlier in the campaign and clearly still has a lot of ability, but he feels the time is right and I respect that.
We will do everything we can to give him a good send-off against Didcot , and I'm sure he won't go too far from the club, just swap his shinpads for a clipboard"
