Debutant Jamie Roch picks up MOTM in a fantastic first game

After a tough schedule of mid week away games the ville were back at home on Pontllanfriath 3G. Picking up some much needed positive results in recent games against Cardiff corries in the FAW cup and a league win against Villa Dino we looked to build some momentum against a tough Lliswerry.
Lliswerry one of the teams fancied to challenge for the league had started well gaining 10 points from they’re first 5 matches. The superb signing of Kyle Basset adding to a team who finished 3rd last season meant we knew this game would be difficult. The late drop out of centre back Luke Prosser for the ville left a big hole for new signing Jamie Roch to fill on his Debut.

Lliswerry started the game the brighter on the slick surface, Ashley Sully (no.7) in particular dictating the play from deep in central midfield. Lliswerry were causing wattsville problems down right flank with the full back linking well with the Lliswerry forwards but they weren’t able to fashion a killer ball to take advantage. Basset was playing deep and his pace was nullifying a lot of our attacks.

Against the run of play 15 minutes in Wattsville went 1-0 up, a very tight offside call produced the first chance for Alex Bonthron who slotted home for his 16th of the season. This kick started the home side into life playing with a bit more energy and confidence. Lliswerry were dangerous in position but their best chances were being created from the lively forwards closing and pressing the wattsville back 3 into losing possession. After 30 minutes the Ville grabbed they’re 2nd goal. Owen Davies managing to steal the ball from a Lliswerry defender and get a shot away only for the keeper to parry the ball back into Owens path for a simple tap in.

The game was still very even first half and Lliswerry got a goal back with about 40 minutes gone, remarkably many shouts of offside led a Wattsville defender to leave the ball instead of heading it. Allowing the busy Cooke (no.9) Lliswerry striker all the time in the world to slot home past Luke Morris.

Lliswerry finished and started either side of Half Time well but Wattsville had chances to grab a 3rd with Alex Bonthron hitting the post before a Gavin Hoare header back across goal deflected off a defender and into the net.
Lliswerry had many corners in the 2nd half but a mixture of solid defending and the safe hands of Luke Morris kept them at bay.

With 20 to go Alex Bonthron got his 2nd of the game, a Wattsville corner dropping to him on the corner of the box after a defensive header Bonthron sweetly placed a left volley into the far corner in trade Mark style.

Lliswerry remained competitive all game but the Wattsville defensive unit of Jamie Firth Jonathon Smith and Jamie Roch was solid and with GK Luke Morris dominating his box all game a consolation goal never looked like coming. Testimont to the work rate of the whole team never allowing Lliswerry to break us down.

Motm Jamie Roch on Debut was excellent and could of even marked his first game with a goal but for a fine tip onto the bar from the keeper off a well stuck free kick.

A massive boost in confidence after a sticky start to the season we’re finally finding our feet in the division. A nasty looking ankle injury to Lloyd Roberts being the only negative for the home team.
