Waveney F.C. would like to announce their gratitude and thanks to George Millington who announced that he was standing down as manager of the 1st team after 8 seasons and over 300 games at the helm.
George took over the team following a casual conversation on Normanston Park with club Chairman Mark Gamble who was delighted when George agreed to become 1st team manager.
The team have been successful in this time and progressed from Division 4 of the Anglian Combination League to the Premier League where they begin their 3rd season on the 25th August.
Along the way, George took the team to Portman Road, Ipswich to 2 Suffolk County Cup Finals, losing on penalties to Oulton Broad in 2012/2013 in the Suffolk Junior Cup and beating Thurlow Nunn opposition on the way to winning the Suffolk Senior Cup at the first time whilst still playing Division 1 football in the 2015/16 season with a dramatic last minute winner in a thrilling 3:2 win over Haughley United, to cap a remarkable league and cup double.
George has not only led the team to Senior Football for the first time in the clubs history, but has been instrumental in the progression of the clubs development of the adults section.
Mark Gamble stated that he would like to personally thank George for everything he has done for the club over those successful 8 years which has produced some magical memories and created history for the club which celebrates it's 40th anniversary this year.
I would like to wish George and his family all the very best for the future and look forward to seeing him at The Amber Dew Stadium to cheer on the team in the coming weeks and months.
Michael King will now become manager of the team having been assistant manager last season.
