Whilst the untimely passing of a friend or family member can be an awkward and tricky subject to face or discuss, there is no more difficult a situation than that of someone being so troubled that they consider ending their own life.
North Lanarkshire Council’s Suicide Prevention NL campaign aims to raise awareness and provide support for suicide prevention within our communities. Suicide is more common than many realise, and it affects families across Lanarkshire. By encouraging open conversations, we can help break the silence surrounding this difficult topic and remind everyone that help is available.
WDRFC have joined in a partnership with NLSP to support their work and to promote the project and its aim of getting people talking and asking after their friends and families.
Put simply, If you're worried about someone, asking them about their feelings can make a big difference. Recognising the signs and reaching out can save lives.

Most people thinking about suicide give signs, but they can be easy to miss. Changes in behaviour, appearance, or mood - such as seeming distant, sad, or distracted are often signals. If you notice these, don't be afraid to ask them directly about how they’re feeling. It could save a life. Call Breathing Space at 0800 838 587 or Samaritans at 116 123.
There’s no perfect way to start the conversation. You don’t need to solve their problems - just listen. Showing someone, you care by asking about their feelings can make a huge difference. Sometimes, knowing they’re not alone is the best support you can offer.
Over the next few weeks and months, WD will be showing their support for NLSP through media and events around the club.
Don't be afraid to ask questions or talk about this difficult subject. It's good to talk.
