Head Coach Ian Morrison admitted it was a frustrating day at Coats Park after Waysiders/Drumpellier slipped to their fourth league defeat of the season.
Hosts Cambuslang ran out winners by eight points in a tough West League Division Two contest.
The loss means W/D are second-bottom of the table, five points clear of rivals Cumbernauld, ahead of the North Lanarkshire derby meeting on Saturday, October 13.
But Morrison believes his side were capable of returning to Langloan with a positive result had they taken some of their attacking opportunities.
He told Advertiser Sport: “We had umpteen chances and our set-piece play throughout the game was very good.
“Conditions were difficult. There was a strong wind which blew across the park and that meant there were some mistakes.
“It is frustrating for us but what is becoming clear is that we are capable of beating any of the teams in this league, perhaps with the exception of Annan who are a quality side.
“I feel we are good enough to play at this level.”
Morrison says W/D were more than a match for Cambuslang up front and added: “I was very pleased with our forwards, who were strong, and Mark Lawlor showed a lot of promise in his first game at scrum-half. James McDonald, in the second row, also had a solid game.”
However, consistency in team selection continues to be a problem for the coach who knows that progress could be made quicker if he was able to pick players on a more regular basis.
“I’m hoping we will be stronger for the game against Cumbernauld,” he said. “We need our players to come to training and then play on a Saturday.
“We are not getting consistency in selection just now and that is limiting what we are able to do and achieve. It’s up to me to come up with different ways of getting the players along.
“It’s all about the players’ attitude. Everybody needs to put the effort in and do their job.
“I’m not disillusioned and I know exactly what I need to do to change things here.
“The reason we are not winning just now is because the guys don’t understand what it takes to be a winning team.”
W/D’s first XV have this weekend off but the second XV are on the road at Carrick.
