Westville made it 4 cup final wins from 4 this season and this was the big one that they really wanted. Sheffield Senior Cup Final against a very good Fitzwilliam Arms team from the Rotherham League.
Westville settled early and took the lead through a Luke Sykes header. Fitzwilliam Arms then settled into the game and would feel unlucky not to be level at the break following several missed chances. Second half and again Westville settled the quicker of the two sides but then Brett Lovell scored an equaliser for Fitzwilliam with a perfectly placed header from a corner, 1-1 and game on. Once again Fitzwilliam took the game to Westville and had chances to take the lead but Westville weathered the storm and on 88 minutes Jamie Williams broke into the Fitzwilliam box and was brought down, giving referee Adam Burgess a serious decision to make....Penalty Westville! Kieran Hirst stepped up and coolly sent the Fitzwilliam keeper the wrong way sending the travelling Westville supporters into delirium! Brett Lovell then had a great chance to level things once again in the dying seconds but sent his header just wide. Westville held on to claim the trophy 2-1, cue scenes of madness on the pitch and in the dressing room!
Credit must go to Fitzwilliam Arms who truly made this a great final to remember and are a team on the rise.
