And !!! Charlie Kallas doesn't score. Reserves have one hand on the title.

Andy Foster had five regulars missing from his squad to play Hammersmith FC on Saturday in the last game of the season. However, there is still no room for the fit again Lee Cornwall and Tom Kilcoyne and he has decided not to include England Under 18 International Joe Cotton, who is back from University and has chosen to play cricket in the opening game of the season for Hayes (Kent) CC.

Reserve’s Manager Joe Ivory had “the game of the season” at Cambridge Heath – the boys needed all 3 points to put pressure on second placed Nottsborough. The home side are anchored at the foot of Senior Division Three but started like an express train and took an early lead. We equalised but Cambridge scored a second and “the chips were down” – the Bluebloods then gobbled up all the chips and score three more. Goals came from George Maw, Akin Lawal, Charlie Smyth and Joe himself. They ran out 4 – 2 winners ---

Nottsborough won their penultimate game 3 – 2. Unless we lose our last game by 9 clear goals we are Champions of the division as we are level on points with a superior goal difference – a tremendous performance. We have scored 60 goals and conceded only 19 – a brilliant defensive record with Leo Webster in outstanding form between the sticks.

The First team included teenagers Johnny White and Ollie Smyth in a 12 man squad at Hammersmith – we have already lost in the Cup on their artificial surface. This is a horrid place to play football but it is a stronghold for Hammersmith who have made an impressive debut in the SAL and are virtually unbeatable at home. Again we had problems as there was a game already in progress when we arrived so neither side was able to warm up before kick off.

Within 20 minutes, however, we had established a 2 – 0 lead with excellent strikes from Johnny White and Josh Tutt. The home side made it 2 – 1 on 30 minutes and from then on it was “nip and tuck” for the remainder of the game. We ran out winners by the same score in a hard fought encounter. Man of the Match went to Charlie Hackshall.
Our season is now complete.

We stand 4 points clear of Nottsborough at the top of Division One but they have 2 games still to play. I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t have been in this parlous position but for the scandalous officiating at last week’s game versus Nottsborough. We lost the game 6 – 4 after being forced to play, wrongly, with 10 men for two periods in the game. The mistakes by the officials were eventually corrected but playing against a fierce wind with depleted forces meant that we trailed 6 – 0 at half time. We were unable to claw back the deficit -- in the final analysis Nottsborough handled the match conditions better than us and took all 3 points. We also had a player correctly dismissed with 20 minutes remaining – so we shot ourselves in the foot. Goals came from Ruan De Silva, Charlie Kallas, Josh Tutt and Sam Murray. A sorry ending to a brilliant story.

The Sixes went to Acton to play Actonians Sevens and won 3 – 2 – we played them at Corkscrew Hill last week and won 2 – 1. Yesterday we cruised into a 3 – 0 lead with Dennis Kurtalic scoring twice and Abi Balogun netting the other. We then conceded two goals in the last 10 minutes to give Craig and Jack “the willies”. We have still got 2 games to play and could end up in third place. It’s been a good season for the Scanlanites and they’ve got Wilsons next week and a home game v Old Salesians on Club Dinner Day (Saturday 11th May). Well done Jack and Jill – sorry – Jack and Craig.
