Four games remain for Hayes and Beckenham CC

The cricket League season is due to end on 4th September when the football club will have a whole host of players back at training. Cricket affects all the Wickham sides -- the number of cricketers playing for Hayes is in double figures so not only the First team squad is affected -- other players are at Beckenham, Old Dunstonians and Locksbottom.

Thanks to those who represented WWFC CC (called West Wickham Wanderers) -- we played four games in the close season -- it was due to be 6 but Beckenham CC chickened out and Balcombe CC altered the date of their Cricket Week and our fixture clashed with the Hayes (Kent) CC fixture. I have already reported the exciting draw at Balcombe and Jon Waite's 99 but we lost to Hayes Sunday 2's despite 82 by Steve Cotton and 23 apiece from Matt King and Connor Byrne. Hayes got the target of 187 in the last over with Matt, Connor and AC each taking 2 wickets.

We lost to a strong Bromley Town side -- they made 215 for 9 (Pete Askew and Connor Byrne 3 each and Matt King 2) -- our reply ended on 168 with Jon Waite scoring 68 and AC 23.

Our only win was in the Hayes Cricket week in the all day game when Paul Jennings playing his first game of the season hit 78, Matt King 33, Tony Stuart 30 and Connor Byrne 26 not out. We finished on 244 for 9 and the home side made 188 with Pete Askew taking 3 wickets, Matt King 2 and one each for The Shoe, Connor, Ronnie Byrne, Sam Davis and Jon Waite. John Miller had 2 victims behind the stumps -- his catch gave The Shoe his first ever senior wicket.

So now its football -- the League starts on September 11th and we should have 3 home games.
