Weymouth remain undefeated at Home.

Patrick May’s positive midweek training session allowed the Weymouth squad to work on areas of weakness highlighted in their first league defeat last weekend, helping in a convincing win over New Milton at Redlands.

The home side had started confidently and were rewarded in the 10th minute. Luke Drewitt with a lovely slip pass from a failed short corner to pick out May, and the Seasiders striker - in space between New Milton’s centre backs - scored with his trademark accuracy slotting the ball inside the left post just above the backboard.

The lead was extended by two further goals before the halftime break, with May adding another to his final match tally of four. Promising young midfielder Ryan Knott made a superbly timed run from deep to connect with a pass across the face of the goal by Patrick May, placing the ball in the goal between the legs of the helpless New Milton Keeper.

Half time saw Weymouth captain Dan Dukes, call for his team to claim their first clean sheet of the season. The Weymouth defence responded to the rally as the skilful New Milton attack, for all their endeavour, where rebounded swiftly and efficiently by experienced sweeper Michael Westlake and the fast pace of Matt Underhill.

Creative play from the Weymouth midfield, noticeably Joe ‘Chins’ Foot increased the haul to 6, May bagging his 3rd followed closely by tenacious attacking midfielder Stiles and Setven Membury, with Membury’s goal being the pick of the trio as he delivered an exceptional reverse-stick blow into the roof of the net.

With 10 minutes to go a formation shuffle from New Milton saw several attempts on goal, bringing out an impressive save from Dukes to confirm the clean sheet. Before time was out May tucked away his 4th, a drag flick, following a penalty corner awarded for a foul on roaming right back Simon Harvey.

The win takes Weymouth back into second place in Hampshire Division 2 as they extended their unbeaten run at home.

Captain Dukes – “ I’m happy to see the team return to winning ways after a disappointing defeat last week, I feel confident that we will be able to maintain our current position going into the Christmas break.”

Weymouth now faces a tough away game against mid-table Fareham.
