What a great occasion to be a part of. A reward for the hard effort put in since July. Unfortunately the result didn't go our way, but it wasn't for the want of trying.

Having wrapped up the league two months ago we haven't been playing much football of late and as much as we tried to stay sharp it definitely carried significance. The effort, work rate and will to win were all there, but that bit of quality and sharpness in the final third that we have had all season eluded us for much of the evening.

Despite this it was certainly not a game we deserved to lose, but sometimes it doesn't go your way in Cup Finals (as we found to our advantage last season).

The first half wasn't a classic by any means. We had the better openings with Luca being denied by a fine save by the keeper when one on one and also firing a free kick just wide, while Chazza hit the side netting from a presentable position.

Weybourne defended well, but hadn't created anything of note until the first half was punctuated by a superb goal just before half-time. The ball fell to their midfielder 20 odd yards out and he found the top corner leaving Carl with no chance. It was their only attempt at goal in the half I'm pretty sure, but it was worthy of the occasion.

We made changes in the second half both personnel wise and in the formation and the game continued to follow the same pattern of us having most of the ball, but failing to put it together in their penalty area.

Weybourne had the first chance of the half when their striker fired over, but after that they were restricted to rare forays into our half as we controlled possession.

Our best chance fell to Luca after some brilliant set up play by Kav as his mazey run got him in on goal, but unfortunately the lay off bobbled and hit Luca nearer his shin than his boot.

Their keeper made a couple of good saves, one from Ped I recall that lead to a bit of a scramble in their goalmouth and we plugged away, but it looked like we would fail to get the goal our efforts warranted.

That was until the 88th minute when Craig swung a free kick in the Chazza beat the keeper to and Dale managed to wrap his foot around it with a looping bicycle effort that beat the defender on the line, leading to an emotion filled celebration by Dale who was in full Terry Butcher mode after spilling a lot of claret in an early aerial collision. Some way to score your first goal for the club.

Chazza went close to winning it, but narrowly headed over from a corner and it went to penalties.

Sadly for us Weybourne held their nerve with some fine penalties and to be honest they never looked like giving Carl a sniff of saving one.

So congrats to them. It was a shame we couldn't land the double, but it has still been a fantastic season. Moving leagues and bringing in 6 new players has rejuvenated the club and lead to one of our most enjoyable and memorable campaigns. A squad full of good blokes who have been a pleasure to manage despite the big competition for places. We look forward to doing it all over again next season in Division 2.

MOTM: Dale - very close between Dale and Pidge (who was back to his best in the second half), but Dale's heroic display and goal won it for him to cap off a fine end to the season.
