Cassies return to league action tomorrow after yet another midweek postponement. Tuesday we were due to travel to Pershore Town but unfortunately the pitch failed inspection.
Looking at the month ahead, we face some tough opposition. Wednesfield, Bilston & Dudley Town all visit us this month. We travel to Wem Town & Cradley Town which makes up our league fixtures for the month of February. In amongst that we begin the defence of our league cup in a re-arranged tie hosting Worcester Raiders. we also have the small matter of the Walsall Senior Cup 1/4 final where we take on near neighbours, Sporting Khalsa. Khalsa are chasing step 5 promotion so just like Coleshill we’ll be underdogs rightly so. But our boys like the big occasion & will no doubt give it everything.
Our opponents tomorrow Wednesfield are no stranger to a high percentage of players we currently have. Having made the move two seasons ago, Gaffa Dean Gill & his coaching staff housed several of the squad over to Cassies. Out of our current crop Reece Mason, Daniel Turton & Lewis Gill all came through Wennys hugely successful youth sides. Having met earlier in the season, Wenny are one of only three sides to breach us this season. A 2-1 win at Amos Lane for cassies. Having won six on the bounce , Wenny were handed there first defeat for sometime midweek. Darlaston Town got the better of them in a 2-1 win. They have strengthened recently with Ashley Bellingham signing on from Shifnal Town. As the season goes on Wednesfield looked to have got stronger. Credit to the Management for turning the fortunes round. The side that arrives tomorrow will be geared up more efficiently than our previous meeting & well need to be right at it to come out on top.
Our player focus falls upon Todd Ferrier this week. Having recently passed 50 appearances for Cassies, Todd has become an integral part of our recent success. Todd spent time at Port Vale academy as a youth before working his way through the ranks at Dudley Town. He made his first team debut in 2017 at the tender age of 17. Last season he made 8 appearances for Dudley before making the move to Cassies. Todd himself played against a few of our current crop through youth football. so he wasn’t a complete stranger. In 28 appearances last season Todd found the net twice. This season in five fewer games he has already notched up six goals. The pick of them a 25 yard screamer against Romulus in the FA cup. His progression as a player in the final third is there for all to see. If he continues in the manner he is, double figures for the season will be within reach. Predominantly a central midfielder, Todd can also adapt when needed. During his spell with us he’s shown his versatility as a full back & even a winger. His game intelligence & awareness make it an easy decision for the management when Todd is called upon. A real compliment to his ability & trust we show in him. His progression in the last 12 months hasn’t gone unnoticed. With two or three offers earlier in the season from other clubs proving that. Todd off the pitch is the same as on it. Honest, committed & loyal. Qualities that can’t be bought, only enhanced. At only 20 Todd has whatever future he wants in the game. He still has a huge amount to learn about his own game that the staff will hopefully continue to get out of him. With a big run in to come, he’s a vital cog in the Cassie machine.
As previously stated our current Gaffa Dean gill has a long affiliation with Wednesfield. For you who can’t make the game tomorrow, heres The Gaffas Match notes:
Tomorrow we welcome Wednesfield to the Lane in a WMRL Premier Division League tie.
It goes without saying, with both mine and many of my team member’s connections with Wednesfield, today will be a fascinating experience.I loved my time there and being able to field lads for Cassies today that won many trophies for Wednesfield is something that I’m extremely proud of.
This season John and his management team have done a great job, it was never going to be easy being brand new into the job and the run they are currently on demonstrates they’re more than up for the challenge and not to be underestimated.
I think our league is finally starting to take shape, I believe its probably 4 from 5 or 4 from 6 at a push for the 4 promotion places, the next 12 weeks promises to be extremely exciting and I’m personally buzzing for the run in.
My Cassie boys are starting to find the cohesion and form they require to achieve what we need to this season. I’m extremely pleased with our recruitment this season, the lads coming in have bought into what I expect perfectly and are adding value every game.
I look forward to seeing Mr Morris and getting told where I’m still going wrong after the game.
I hope everyone enjoys today’s game and we entertain you.
Tomorrow’s game is scheduled for a 3pm KO
The bar will be open for alcoholic & soft drinks. Queen Bee will once again be catering for all your hot food & drinks.
