Woolston Rovers celebrated a fantastic 2024 season with the first ever annual Harry Crank awards evening. The event, which took place in the 40/Twenty Lounge at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on 2nd November 2024 was a showcase of talent throughout the club.
Woolston Rovers have been focusing this year on building a one club culture with the aim of growing the club even further. The evening saw 46 players recognised as well as two of our exceptional volunteers who received the first ever Harry Crank Volunteer of the Year award.
Ruth Fouracre from North West Counties Junior and Youth Rugby league attended the event and said the following, “I was truly blown away by the efforts that went into making the event so special for the players, particularly the sportsmanship displayed. I believe only in our sport do you see such camaraderie and grace in both victory and defeat. The coaches words about their players were touching and beautiful. Their heartfelt sentiments clearly illustrate just how much your volunteers care about the wellbeing and development of each athlete.”
It's been a great year for Woolston Rovers where we’ve had so much to recognise and celebrate from Flag Bearing at Wembley and Magic Weekend, to the success of our junior festival over, to scholarship offers for our juniors and our Open Age cemented their place in Division One with a creditable eighth place finish in their first season back at that level, whilst our NWML impressed in their Entry Division games, which will hopefully see them move into Division Four for the 2025 campaign
Junior Chairman Mark Robinson had the following to say about 2024, “People often ask me why I spend so much time with the club, I don’t see it like that, I see it as a place where honest, hard working people come together to improve the life skills of our members and give them the life skills to play the greatest sport of all. I suppose we are like a family and as a family we aim to inspire the community through hope, confidence and trust through rugby league.”
Club President Warren Whalley, who is also Open Age Chair, believes it is has been a fantastic year for the whole club and shows that we are in a great position moving forward. He said, “We have twenty teams at the club from Cubs all the way upto Under 16s and then two Open Age sides, whilst we will have an Under 18s next season for the first time in four years and getting together as a club for the Harry Crank Awards evening can only solidify us and ensure we continue to grow each year. It was a great evening and was also to have the family of my great friend Harry with us; they were a big part of the club as they grew up and came along with their dad, grandad and great grandad.”
