Woolston Rovers will be hosting their Annual Season Launch Dinner featuring the Hall of Fame Induction and Heritage Numbers on Saturday 1st February 2025 at Warrington Masonic Hall, 15 Winmarleigh Street, Warrington, WA1 1NB, commencing at 7.00pm.
Former inductees have conducted their voting process for admission to this hallowed group, and the club are delighted to announce that there will be three new inductees to the Woolston Rovers Hall of Fame on the night.
The names of the 2025 inductees are (in alphabetical order): Allan Johnson, who was a stalwart of the side in the 1960s and 1970s as strong running and hard tackling second row forward before helping the club tremendously off the field for many years once he finished his playing career, Steve Martin, a dynamic goalkicker and excellent scrum half or winger in the 1990s and early 2000s who was a member of the formidable side that claimed three successive NCL league titles and three Lancashire Cup crowns as well as scoring our try and conversion against Warrington Wolves in the 2001 Challenge Cup tie and Ian Williams, affectionately known as ‘Wormy’ throughout his loyal service to the Rovers club, was a tough-as-teak forward who never took a backward step during the 1970s and 1980s and was a member of the Rovers side that was one of the inaugural ten teams that formed the National League in 1985. All three have played a significant role, both on and off the pitch, and thoroughly deserve this recognition.
Also on the evening the current coaching staff, NCL Head Coach Liam Lawton and NWML Head Coach Craig Woolvine, will be outlining their hopes and aspirations for the forthcoming season, which promises to be very exciting with the NCL side looking to have a successful year in Division One, whilst our NWML will be hoping to move into Division Four following a successful year re-building in the Entry Division. We will also have an Under 18s side, which we have missed for the past four years, and this will further enhance our talent pool.
There will also be heritage numbers handed out by Mark Brookhouse to numerous players who have represented the famous Green & Gold with distinction over the years.
The excellent FrameSmart company, from Halifax, will also be in attendance offering a silent auction with many famous sporting stars being available for you to purchase.
Tickets are now on sale, priced at £25 each; if you would like to reserve a place then please contact Dave Whalley, either by phone call or text message on 07809 647014.
