Neighbours in town
Reds welcome our south Cumbrian neighbours, Kendal Town, to Borough Park – their first competitive visit for over eleven years.
They go toe-to-toe in the 1st Round of the Integro Doodson League Cup, a competition in which they have been paired together seven times in the past.
Back in 1978, and operating under one of their former titles, Netherfield, the Kendal outfit became the first League Cup visitors to west Cumbria. It finished all square, 1-1, and went to a replay. We won the decider at Parkside and have beaten Town on six other occasions in the competition since.
Our best League Cup win was obtained at Town’s expense when we won 6-0 here thirteen years ago.
The Kendal squad has a sprinkling of former Reds’ players in their ranks with Aaron Taylor and Tom Smyth recently linking up with Jordan Connerton.
Reds’ will be able to welcome Gari Rowntree and Conor Tinnion back into the fold after they served their one match suspension at the weekend.
Workington have played 67 ties in the League Cup, winning 25, drawing 9 and losing 33.
Replays are no longer required with the tie decided on the night, by penalties if necessary.
BBC Radio Cumbria will provide updates throughout the evening as will Paul Armstrong on the Live Scoreboard via the club’s website.
Kick-off 7.45pm.
