Prize money on offer

It’s knock-out football at Borough Park on Saturday with Reds hosting National League North outfit, Harrogate Town, in The Emirates FA Cup Second Round Qualifying stage (3pm).

The eventual winners will pocket a cheque for £4,500 from the FAs generous prize fund but, despite home advantage, Reds go into the tie as underdogs against a Town side currently 4th in the league above.

Derek Townsley will be assessing the fitness of a couple of players, who sustained knocks in Tuesday’s win at Colwyn Bay, before naming his starting XI.
The clubs have met in the competition previously with Town progressing at our expense seven years ago. After two goalless draws, it was decided via a penalty shoot-out at Wetherby Road.

• The club received the news about Joe Wilson’s sad passing today and there will be the opportunity to pay tribute to the former Reds’ fullback prior to kick-off. Joe played for Workington during the fifties, sixties and seventies amassing 347 league and cup appearances. He also played for Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Newport County in between his two spells at Borough Park. Our condolences go to Joe’s immediate family in Australia and also his relatives at home.
