Worsbrough slipped to a narrow 1-2 home defeat against mid table Knaresborough Town last night keeping them in 20th in the NCEL Division 1 table.

With games in hand, manager Mark Joyce had hoped to see The Briggers bounce back from defeat against Hallam against an away side on an inconsistent run of form, but coming off the back of a morale raising 5-0 home league win against Rossington Main and a good cup win against AFC Mansfield.

It was the visitors that settled the better of the sides, and they created fours half chances within the first 10 minutes as the home team struggled to get a grip on the game. It was therefore no surprise when Knaresborough took the lead after 17 minutes, a neat pull back was finished neatly by Ben Clayton.

Despite going behind the home side continued to struggle to get in the game, with Knaresborough creating further chances, the best of which a 1on1 with keeper Christian Bark which was smartly saved. It took until the 25 minute before the home side had a decent chance, with a free kick headed away and a follow up shot going just wide followed by a long range shot over the bar after 29 minutes.

The home side had their best spell of the half towards half-time when after 39 minutes a goal mouth scramble didn't drop kindly for the Worsbrough strikeforce followed by a penalty shout on the stroke of half-time.

As the second half kicked off it looked like the visitors were set to take control of the game as they created the first meaningful chances with a header just wide of the far post after 47 minutes and a corner that hit the bar after 50 minutes.

But after 52 minutes Worsbrough were back in the game with a well worked set piece equalizer. A corner from the left was powerfully headed home by Nick Galloway and it was game on. The goal seemed to lift the home side and they went on to create a series of good chances, hitting the bar after 59 minutes followed by a succession of half chances that were either saved by the keeper or wide of the Knaresborough goal.

Despite the home sides pressure it was the visitors that got what was the killer goal after 69 minutes. With the home sides defenders looking for an offside flag from the assistant referee, the Knaresborough forward line broke down the right crossed the ball into the centre and the ball was knocked past the despairing dive of goalkeeper Bark by his own player, Kyle Spooner.

The second goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of the home side and no real clear cut chances were created by both sides in the last 20 minutes as the visitors managed the game well to gain the points.
