FA Cup

Omar Bugiel’s last minute equaliser from the penalty spot ensured that Worthing will face an Emirates FA Cup replay at Carshalton Athletic on Monday.

A topsy-turvy encounter ended in a 3-3 draw as Bugiel completed his hat-trick with more or less the last kick of the game following a handball in the penalty area.

Bugiel had given his side the lead in the first half but Carshalton turned the game on its head with goals from Mickel Miller and Tommy Bradford making it 2-1.

Miller scored his second just after the hour mark, but the visitors were reduced to ten men when Sekou Kaba was sent-off and Bugiel pulled a goal back before his late leveller.

Kick-off was delayed and both sides looked lethargic during the early stages, Ricky Korboa striking the wrong side of the post from 20 yards for Carshalton.

Kane Wills volleyed straight at visiting goalkeeper Alexandros Kozakis before Worthing took the lead in the 21st minute.

Bugiel linked up well with Reis Stanislaus on the edge of the penalty area before rounding Kalvin Morath-Gibbs and squeezing past Kozakis.

Carshalton nearly responded five minutes later but Steve Metcalf did well to block Miller’s close range effort and Rikki Banks saved Kaba’s fierce drive.

The Rebels struck the woodwork just after the half hour mark when Sam Rents’ free-kick was met by Stanislaus whose volley was pushed onto the post by Kozakis.

The hosts were made to pay for failing to make the most of their first half possession when Kaba played Miller who struck into the bottom corner to equalise.

Three minutes later Carshalton took the lead when Peter Adeniyi beat the offside trap and squared to Bradford who tapped in to make it 2-1 at half-time.

The visitors made a better start to the second half with Banks saving warning shots from Miller and Korboa.

Carshalton extended their lead after the hour mark when Korboa cut back to Kaba whose powerful shot was saved by Banks but Miller was quickest to the rebound.

Momentum turned again in the 67th minute when Kaba was sent-off, picking up a second yellow card for a foul on Will Hendon.

Worthing pulled a goal back in the 78th minute when Zack Newton produced a pinpoint cross for Bugiel to head into the bottom corner.

Newton then had a shot blocked, Gary Elphick headed over and Brannon O’Neill’s free-kick was deflected off target as the hosts edged closer to the equaliser.

It finally came deep into stoppage time when a Carshalton player handled in the penalty area and Bugiel converted from the spot to ensure a replay on Monday night.
