History

Here’s how it all began
Let’s go back to 2007 yes 2007 not 2008. I will fill in the gaps along the way.
The Campground was a disused field with some rugby posts on it which was never used.
Along came David Pegg with a vision for Wrekenton to have its own youth Football club. With a lot help from his long suffering wife Vicky and childhood friend John Taylor the vision began to take shape.
First stop Gateshead Council to secure a lease for the site, little did we know how much blood sweat and tears would be shed, after a lot of meetings, phone calls and letters and I mean a LOT, plus the opposition we came up against, the lease was secured on the 28th of April 2008 at 8.30pm the day before David’s birthday so what an early birthday present that was. Between the year 2007 – 2008 was the longest year we have had to wait for decisions to be made by Gateshead Council and other Big Wigs so the Vision was born. Now moving away from the red tape and bureaucrats.
Wrekenton Nou Camp YFC was born. For all you readers wondering how we got our name and our strip colours this is how we thought of it. The name Nou Camp came from using the Campground plus were Barcelona play at the Camp Nou, so this is how we came up with Wrekenton Nou Camp and playing in Barcelona’s strip colours ( have you got the jest of it )
With 3 teams a lawnmower and a line marker we began. With a lot of help from family and friends the club began to take shape.
The committee was formed, grants applied for and numerous other things which I will not bore you with.
Over the last 4 years starting with 3 teams, Wrekenton now has 18 teams and is still growing and going from strength to strength. With a great deal of hard work from that little man on the lawnmower ( Norman ) to our Club Secretary Vicky, treasurer Jean, chairman Ron and all our managers right down to the tea ladies who can I just say are all volunteers and give up their free time and I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH
