Wythenshawe Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Michael Worthington as our new Assistant Manager.
Michael boasts 19 years of coaching experience in football, including spells as First Team Manager of Glossop North End, First Team Coach of Clitheroe FC and, most recently, First Team Coach of Ramsbottom United.
Prior to his arrival at The Hollyhedge Park Community Stadium, Michael also held the position of Under 18s Manager at Nelson FC, Development Squad Manager at Darwen FC, and Under 23s Manager at both Padiham FC and Clitheroe.
Michael guided Padiham to back-to-back Lancashire U23 league titles in 2018/19 and 2019/20, while also winning the competition twice in three seasons with Clitheroe, in 2020/21 and 2022/23. The league wasn’t the only accolade he secured at Padiham, securing the Lancashire U21 County Cup with the club in 2019.
During the 2022/23 season, as part of Clitheroe’s coaching team, Michael helped the club achieve a play-off finish in the Northern Premier League West for the first time in their history.
Speaking on his arrival to The Hollyhedge Park Community Stadium, he said: “I’m delighted that Shane has offered me the chance to join the club. When I spoke to him and the board, it was a no-brainier, it ticked a lot of boxes for me, both personally and professionally. It is an ambitious club, both on and off the pitch, and it’s a privilege to be asked to be part of the club’s journey.”
Manager Shane Goldrick is delighted to welcome Michael to the club and is looking forward to working with him ahead of our first season in the Northern Premier League.
“I’d like to welcome Michael to the club,” Shane said. “His experience in both youth and senior football, as well as his achievements in the game, are why Michael has joined the club’s coaching team.”
“I’m looking forward to working with Michael in what is a historic season for the club.”
