Hard fought win under the lights at Morley

Yarnbury U17s travelled to Morley for a Friday night floodlight game and edged it.

Morley took the lead after 30 seconds with Yarnbury's usual slow start, conversion missed so 5-0 to the hosts. Yarnbury struck back and following lots of possession, good ball retention and patience in the Morley 22, Ed Green powered over and a successful conversion gave them a 5-7 lead. They extended the lead when a good box kick was chased down by Jacob Rawson and a great pop of the deck released Josh Dunn to out pace the cover to score, another conversion making it 5-14. Morley struck back after strong carries marched them down field against poor line speed from Yarnbury. They crossed but again missed the conversion, 10-14. Yarnbury won a penalty on last play of the half in the Morley 22 and added an extra 3 to give them a 10-17 half time lead.

Yarnbury deserved the lead at half time, but the second half was different. Morley's bigger pack started to tell and stifled Yarnbury of possession. However it was Yarnbury who scored next following a brilliant kick return from MOM Keenan Dyer-Dixon, he motored 70 metres and was only stopped by a high tackle by the last defender, leaving the referee no choice but to award a penalty try and yellow card the offender, 10-24. Morley came back and scored 2 converted tries to level the game at 24-24, with less than 10 mins to go. The game was decided when Morley spilled a pass out wide just in their own half, Maxwell Lee kicked through and then kicked the ball again on the floor. The ball travelled over the Morley line and it was a foot race to who got their first, which was Maxwell Lee just before the 3 covering defenders, conversion missed, 24-29. Morley had a few minutes to take the game back, but Yarnbury held out for the win.

Enjoyable evening, well refereed and a big thanks to our hosts.
