Another solid performance for ¾ of this match secures the win for Yarnbury over Ripon.

Yarnbury (19) 48
Ripon (7) 21
Tries: James Longhawn (3), Louie Thorpe (2), Josh Dunn, Maxwell Lee, Jacob Rawson
Cons: Maxwell Lee (4)

Ripon kick off and put Yarnbury under immediate pressure when they regather the ball but they are adjudged to be offside when putting in a kick over the pressing defensive line. Another Ripon attack sees the ball lost in contact and Maxwell Lee is able to kick clear, taking play up to the Ripon 22. Yarnbury disrupt the lineout and recover the ball. Jacob Rawson makes a clean break when not held in the tackle but knocks on in the next contact. Ripon kick clear but the ball is ran back in by fullback Joe Ward and numerous pick and drives eventually sees James Longhawn dive over the ruck to score. The conversion is missed but after 7 minutes Yarnbury lead by 5. This is quickly followed 3 minutes later by a 2nd try when Eddie Davey initially attacks down the wing. Play is taken into the Ripon 22 where advantage is awarded for a high tackle but a miss pass from Maxwell Lee to Louis Thorpe on the other wing sees him score in the corner. Maxwell Lee completes the difficult conversion, extending the lead to 12. Ripon respond immediately, gathering the re-start kick and a missed tackle in centre field allows them to score near the posts. The Yarnbury response is to win turnover ball in the Ripon 22 from the re-start but they knock on when hitting the try line. Ripon kick clear from their 5m scrum but the ball is again ran back in by Joe Ward and winger Louis Thorpe is again released to score his 2nd try. Maxwell Lee kicks the conversion; Yarnbury 19-7 Ripon

The free scoring first 15 minutes cannot be replicated as Yarnbury concede numerous penalties at the breakdown; handling the ball when off feet, side entry clearance, not releasing the ball, with various knock-ons stopping any momentum being gained. From a positive note, Yarnbury deal with the re-start much better, early pressure on the Yarnbury scrum is fixed and begins to exert some dominance as the half continues, and Ripon are unable to secure much territory or possession. Yarnbury have a good attacking opportunity following a penalty conceded by Ripon on their 22 and a kick for a 5m lineout is made. Jack Brownridge secures the ball but is tackled before the maul can be set up. Yarnbury win penalty advantage from a high tackle on Maxwell Lee in front of the posts and when the attack comes to nothing they elect for a scrum. However, the attack from the base of the scrum is messy and the ball is knocked on. The last play of the half sees Ripon penalised and Yarnbury decide to call time on play. Half time: Yarnbury 19-7 Ripon.

Yarnbury kick off the second half and Jonny Suttcliffe gathers the ball but is forced into touch. James Longhawn steals the ball after the Ripon lineout but is adjudged to be offside. Ripon kick for the lineout and try to set a driving maul but Yarnbury easily deal with it and, when the ball does not become available, are awarded a scrum. Maxwell Lee attacks by putting in a grubber kick into the Ripon 22 but Yarnbury are again penalised. Ripon repeat the ‘lineout, maul, Yarnbury awarded scrum’ play but this time the Yarnbury attack sees Jamie McDonnell make a break and when tackled 10m out, Josh Dunn is in support to take the final pass and score in the corner. After 5 minutes Yarnbury have extended their lead to 17. Ripon respond with pressure in the Yarnbury 22, forcing a knock-on. The Yarnbury defence initially holds out the waves of attacks but quick hands creates a gap for Ripon to crash over and score and then complete the conversion; Yarnbury 24-14 Ripon.

From the restart Ripon kick the ball downfield to clear their lines. Maxwell Lee catches the ball and releases Conor Hardaker who takes play back up to the 22 line. Josh Dunn takes the ball into contact and James Longhawn snipes through the centre of the ruck and just gets over the line and grounds the ball. Maxwell Lee completes the conversion to re-establish the 17 point lead. Yarnbury are putting Ripon under lots of pressure with strong carries by Sam Brown and Joe Birchall, and the latter is nearly released to score from a blind side attack but knocks on. Yarnbury quickly regather the ball but, when attacking, Jamie McDonnell is tackled dangerously in the air when gathering a high pass. He retaliates and both players are yellow carded but Ripon are awarded the penalty. Ripon opt for a cross field kick which they are able to regather and attack down the wing, eventually scoring and adding the conversion; Yarnbury 31-21 Ripon

Any hope of a comeback is extinguished in the final 10 minutes which sees Yarnbury score 3 unanswered tries. The 1st is scored following a Yarnbury lineout in the Ripon half. It is overthrown but Sam Brown is on hand to gather the ball and Maxwell Lee makes a clean break through the defensive line and steps round the fullback to score under the posts and then completes the conversion. The 2nd sees offloads out of the back of the hand by Conor Hardaker and Maxwell Lee that sucks in the defence creating a huge overlap out wide, and Jacob Rawson is on hand to run the ball in. The 3rd try is scored in the final play of the game following a Yarnbury scrum for a Ripon forward pass. Matt Schofield takes play into contact in the Ripon 22 and quick ball sees Jamie McDonnell able to take the ball up to the try line before being stopped but he is able to pop the ball to James Longhawn to score. Full time: Yarnbury 48-21 Ripon.
