Cup final win for Yorkshire Main ?

Yorkshire Main win in the Cup final on the last day of the season. Its the club's first Cup win for over a decade and the first piece of silverware since the 2016/17 season.

Their opponents were Airmyn Fc based in the Goole area and had reached the final by beating Division 1 double winners Bentley Village.

Despite Yorkshire Main having the majority of possession in the first 25 minutes and looking in control it was Airmyn who went in front after Grant Hill was deemed to have fouled in the box and a penalty was awarded, Higgins stepped up and converted to make it 1-0. A quick response was needed and came with the equaliser coming a minute later when AJ Sides cross into the box dropped kindly to Karl Reed who slotted home from close range 1-1. Yorkshire Main had chances to take the lead but both Clark and Taylor couldn't hit the target.

Half time.

The second half saw an improved display from Airmyn as they caused Main some problems at the back forcing some changes to the lineup. Rhys Plater was seeing more of the ball in the second half which helped Main get back into the game. A cross from Ben Clark saw Tom Doherty go close with a header but it was a superb run down the left from Plater who got passed the full back and crossed the ball into the area and the ball fell to Reed who stuck a shot just inside the box to give Yorkshire Main the lead and send both players and crowd into a frenzy... superb strike to make it 1-2.

With minutes left Yorkshire Main had to just keep possession of the ball and run the clock down after the match officials indicated another 5 was to play but Main did their job and the final whistle blew.

Full time and Yorkshire Main were the 2021/22 League Cup winners.

Man of match- Not just for his goals but his all round contribution and formidable pressing all over the pitch - Karl Reed

Brilliant to sign off the season with a trophy and hopefully see a change in fortune for the club.

Thank you to all the supporters for coming to watch and cheer on the club, Edlington White Stars for providing the mascots, all our sponsors over the season, the committee for their hard work all season long and the players for giving their all and doing the job when it mattered.
