This is the last home game sponsored by LWC for the Saints of the 2018/19 season and it and the whole weekend promises to be massive!

We welcome Kingsbridge to Tregorrick Park in the penultimate WCW League game of the season. This weekend is also a celebration of other variants of senior rugby and a whole other load of fun stuff but more of that at the end!

Kingsbridge lay in 9th position in WCW. After 24 games they have won eight, drawn one and lost 15. They play a gritty and competitive brand of rugby so its surprising to see then with just the eight wins but I am sure they want to make it nine this weekend!

Last outing was against Sidmouth and they battled for a losing bonus point in what sounds like a great fixture despite going down 26-31. Sidmouth squeak it and go back to the top of the league and Kingsbridge get to mull over what could have been.

Saints went down to Falmouth with the last play of the match. Falmouth’s intent was to throw the ball from touchline to touchline to stretch the Saints. On two occasions they kicked wide to speed things up but got Frazer Nottle instead who ran in two classic winger tries. It wasn’t enough as the boys fought hard to keep Falmouth out who relentlessly kept on coming at the try line from close in, drive after drive repelled until they finally found a gap and that was also the final whistle. Hugely frustrating for the Saints but they fought well and they should take heart from that and bring it back to Tregorrick for this last home tie hurrah of the 18/19 season.

Thought from Miles Davey, CLUB Captain: “As the season is drawing to an end it is proving to be a reality check for the squad. However, we are extremely driven to put in an 80 minute performance. This Saturday will be a great day to showcase such a performance in front of a bumper crowd. COYS”

Saints more than ever need that 16th man in the stands this Saturday. Its free to get in this week and I’ll explain why soon but spread the word, get people up there and brings some extra noise with you.

This weekend is also our annual Ale, Cider and Gin Festival. We have worked really hard to ensure the weekend is full of rugby and entertainment for you all so lets see you up there to enjoy it. Its starts on Friday 5th April at 5pm. Bars open and food on the BBQ. At 7.30pm we have St Austell Sinners v Cornish Barbarians. The Barbarians are made up of at least 4 Cornish clubs so come and have a cheer for all those out there. Straight after the Sinners finish we have local top band ‘The Dweebs’ on the music stage and bars open till midnight.

On Saturday the bars open at 11am. First game up at 12.30pm is the St Austell Vets v Camborne Vets. This is always fun to watch so come early and spend the day plus if you have a car then get a slot early as its going to be packed. Next up is the main event with Saints v Kingsbridge with a 3pm KO. Remember its free to get in! After the Saints we have amazing band ‘The Hoodle’ starting around 5.30pm. Following them we have ‘One for the Road’ and we round off with our very own ‘Tregony Teachers’ until late. Search for ‘St Austell RFC – Ale and Gin Festival’ on Facebook and follow the page for more updates.

See you on either/or/and Friday and Saturday!

What’s Going On?

Senior Players Awards Night – Friday 10th May in ‘The Seahorse’ at Pentewan Sands. A 3-course meal and live music from the Mighty Off-Beats will accompany Senior player and other awards. More details are HERE including bank transfer details. Tickets at £30 each will be limited for what promises to be a fantastic night. UPDATE - TICKETS ARE NOW SHIFTING SO GET YOURS SOON!

100 club –You can still join…Your number will be assigned in the next month’s draw. Feeding funds into purely rugby activities is central to our strategy to grow the whole club, providing help to the people who volunteer at Tregorrick to get qualified and to buy equipment when needed. If we don’t invest in ourselves we won’t progress! The fund that we are placing the money in is explained HERE. The form is available around the club in wall holders. Please get behind this…3 cash prizes a month and it needs your support!

Tregorrick 10's - On 4th May (Star Wars Day for those inclined) we have proposed to hold a 10's tournament for teams playing in the Duchy League (our Sinners for example) and any team from Level 8 and below. We as a club support grass roots rugby and that has had a rough time of it this season and we fear for its future unless more is done for it...and this is our offering. More details about it HERE. If you know people at any other clubs that fit the requirements as above please nag them to get on board with this venture!
