UNDERBANK Rangers’ clash with Bramley Buffaloes is set to be replayed after a serious neck injury to Dominic Liversidge caused the match to be abandoned.
The score was 36-6 in Underbank’s favour and the home side were set to retain their position at the top of the National Conference League Division III when play was stopped.
However, regulations mean that since the match failed to reach the hour mark, the tie will have to be replayed.
Bramley’s Liversidge collapsed to the floor in the 52nd minute after it appeared a teammate’s boot accidently caught the prop in the neck as the two went into tackle Bank’s Courtney Allette.
The forward was unable to move and had symptoms of pins and needles in his fingers.
Play was halted for approximately one hour before it was decided the game would not be resumed.
Medical staff were quick on the scene and Liversidge was eventually airlifted to hospital, due to the fear of causing further damage through unnecessary spinal movements on the bumpy roads of Holmfirth.
Bramley chairman Martyn Cheney described the extent of Liversidge’s condition and stated: “His season is over.
“We have had a few updates and he has gained movement in his arms and legs but they couldn’t work out what was causing the pain, so they have done an MRI scan and it is some serious nerve and muscle damage.
“They have released him from hospital and they have let him go home which is great news.
“He will have to wear a neck brace for a month and he has been told that he won’t be returning to rugby this year.”
A new date for the replay has yet to be arranged.
