2. Past Players 2

Craig Sutton was Charles Saunders gargantuan full back for a decade. Standing at around six feet and 5 inches and weighing around 17 stone Sutton is a terrifying site for any opponent.

He drew pundits for a long a throw that would draw gasps from the sidelines, capable of hitting the penalty spot from the 30 yard mark and causing havoc in the most organised of defences. "Sutts" even had a few chalked off for going straight in, beating the keeper from the touchline with a throw is an impressive feat in itself.

During a brief stop in goal he was capable of combining the glorious with the absurd, his massive frame hard to beat when in the net, but some decisions to rush the attacker left him stranded and lobbed or easily rounded. Craig's love of coming to punch crosses was hit and miss for his defenders. When he got the ball it would always be sent well clear, but a few defenders from 2005 still have ringing in their ear when they have headed it clear only to receive a mighty punch from Sutts.

His team mates were also grateful for his brutal fouls, if someone needed to be reminded not to take liberties on our younger or smaller players they could expect a battering from the Saunders hatchet man. A combination of ruthless aggression and horrible timing left many a winger wishing he had stayed in bed. In the first ever AFCK vs. Blackhorse game Sutton hit a young lad so hard he sat on the sideline crying, one of his team mates shouting "your lucky his Dad is not here" Sutton showing no mercy replied "His Dad is lucky his Dads not here".

Sadly not as gifted as he would have liked at the technical aspects of the game Sutton will be remember by some for his special move of just knocking it out for a throw, turning his back on headers and trapping it between his shoulder blades, air shots and his high rate of own goals and penalties conceded.

However in his final season with AFCK he scored two impressive leaping headed goals from corners in successive games finally realising the potential of his monstrous size and power.

At the end of the 2008/09 season Craig was allowed to move to Spartans FC to take up an assistant Player Manager role and play more first team football. Some will remember Sutts as a wrecking ball others as a liability but all will recognise an excellent clubman.
