With football in Botswana still in shock following the dismissal of Police and Security Systems from the Premier League, uncertainty hangs over the start of the season.
With Divisions 1 and 2 originally due to kick off today the league has been postponed by at least two weeks. As many people focus on the big names it must be remembered that there are 6 teams that have been relegated to Division 4, including Wildlife, BVI and Powerline.
This follows non-payment of Affiliation fees of P500. These were due in May and although there was a grace period where clubs were reminded these 6 teams still did not pay. This looks like being a very costly mistake for some.
With appeals and possible legal action to come it could delay the start of the season further. However, GACFA are sure of their position and have play-offs next weekend to decide who will replace the missing teams. This will mean fixtures will have to be rewritten and published, hopefully in time for kick off on the 1st September.
Another issue is which teams will continue to play. While a P5000 fine for Police is bearable this is a huge amount for the smaller teams and could see some of them disappear from the football map completely.
Rival teams are already looking to take some of the relegated players to strengthen their own positions, causing further problems for the 6.
