Team of the Decade: 2000 - 2009

There have been many great players to have pulled on the Ashton United shirt over the last decade. This squad was voted for by the supporters on the official club forum.

1. Andy Johnston ('Johnno' fast became something of a club legend with his fine shot stopping and commanding presence between the sticks)

2. Andy Thackaray (A player with a fine football league pedigree - rarely made a mistake)

3. Paul Collins (Former Manchester City youth player who oozed class in abundance)

4. Scott Green (Came to Ashton following a glittering professional career and looked a class above wherever he played on the park)

5. Paul Clowes (A gentleman both on the field and off it, Paul always set the perfect example for any young player to follow)

6. Darren Royle (captain) (A club stalwart, a fine defender and always dangerous coming up from the back for set plays)

7. Matty O'Neill (Former Burnley first teamer capable of running even the best UniBond defences ragged)

8. Dean Johnson (A cultured midfielder capable of splitting defences into fragments with his passing and movement)

9. Phil Denney (Never stopped running - a tireless worker and a regular scorer)

10. Ciaran Kilheeney (Scored more than one goal per two games in his time at Ashton - now scoring goals galore in the Conference North)

11. Chris Cornelly (Left winger who was denied a professional career at Lincoln City through injury - had pace skill and the ability to cut inside and score spectacular goals)

Substitutes

12. Terry Smith (Young goalkeeper with superb shot stopping ability and athletiscism)

14. Pete Carty (Mr versatility himself - whether it be up front or at left-back - always ready and willing for the cause)

15. Ian Bennett (Supporters' Player of the Year in 2008 - a midfielder with great touch, vision and technical ability)

16. Nicky Clee (Winger now playing his trade in the Conference North, Nicky was a danger to any defence)

17. Jamie Miller (A regular goal scorer despite an injury hit career - formed a superb partnership with Phil Denney)
