The 1980’s: The decade starts in an uninspiring way but in the 1981/2 season John Surguy returns to the Club after a spell at Northampton and is accompanied by David Cooke. David is an ex England international from the 1970’s who captained both Harlequins and the Barbarians and played alongside John at The Saints. The season ends with Bletchley’s first ever appearance in the County Cup Final which they lose 25 points to 6 against High Wycombe. In 1983/4 Bletchley again reach the County Cup Final and in a replayed match against Old Pennanians (the first encounter ends in a 3 all draw) Bletchley prevail in a close game by 9 points to 7. As a reward for their efforts, early the following season Bletchley go into the first round of the John Player Cup and are drawn away to Redruth. They are defeated 26 points to 9 but put up a fantastic show. Later in the season Bletchley retain the County Cup by comfortably defeating Marlow 17 points to 4 and qualify again for the John Player Cup. The national draw pits them against Maidenhead and in a close fought game Bletchley prevail by 20 points to 9 at a crowded Manor Fields. The draw for the next round of the cup is kind and Bletchley are drawn at home to Havant but in a tense match Bletchley are just edged out by 9 points to 6.
Other notable events include:

The 1990’s: In 1992 the Club makes a significant stride forward when it links up with Two Mile Ash School to provide junior and a little later mini rugby for the first time.
By 1996 the Mini & Junior Section is running sides down to the Under 7’s and a number of ex players have completed coaching courses to strengthen what quickly becomes the Club’s most vibrant section.
On the senior side the Club’s fortunes start to decline with a succession of poor seasons. However it still continues to produce good players and Mark Sharpe and Peter Garrett leave to join Bedford and a number of players gain County honours.
A vindication of the benefit of a strong Junior section comes in 1997 when Chris Coussell becomes the first Bletchley player to win international honours when he is selected to play for the England Under 16’s.
The Millennium To Date: This period starts somewhat depressingly for the Seniors as they suffer two consecutive relegations but there is promise in a developing group of youngsters within the squad.
The Junior section continues to prosper and in 2002 the Club is asked by the Buckinghamshire RFU to participate in a pilot scheme under the Active Sport banner which leads to the RFU Seal of Approval and Sport England Clubmark awards.
In the same year the Club also launches its website.
The Senior side’s form improves dramatically and promotions are secured in 2003, 2004 and 2006.
In 2008 there is a significant development as Bletchley launches its first Ladies Section. The Ladies quickly become a powerful force and in 2013 enter the National Challenge North League.
