Brimsdown FC wants to offer a fair and unique opportunity for people with disabilities and special needs to have the chance to play football too. The aims of starting a project like this are to help the disabled community to:
- Develop and build on their social skills
- To build new friendships and relationships
- To develop their physical skills
- To develop their communication skills
- To build of their self-confidence
- To help them to build on their goals for the future
- To help them gain greater independence
Disabled football includes many different types of teams, as Brimsdown FC we would like to be the establishment who enable these teams to run. We would like to establish teams for those who are visually impaired, for those who have hearing impairments, for those who have artificial limbs and those individuals who suffer with cerebral palsy and have learning difficulties.
Currently, we have reached out to schools working with children with disabilities in the Enfield borough informing them of our future plans with the Church-field project. We aim to build good partnerships with schools and charities to build a great foundation for all people with disabilities.
In addition, our current committee member Duygu Abdurraham is qualified in working with children and those with learning disabilities. She has been fostering a child with learning disabilities for 9 years, and is trained in many areas. She is trained and qualified in First Aid, Child Protection, Foster Care, and trained in managing behaviour in children and managing the psychological needs of primary school children. She has connections with Cheviot disability centre and works alongside with them while fostering. She will be appointed as Executive chief officer of disability football, and will work alongside all qualified disability coaches.
