ICI Fibres
ICI Fibres was founded by Eric Taylor and John Daniels specifically for factory employees around 1960. Their home ground was located at ICI Fibres Sports and Social Club, Brockworth just behind the factory. Upon formation entry was accepted to play within the Stroud & District League (Division 3).
After a number of years as a social football team the club opened itself up to the local community attracting players young and old to the club. This naturally improved the quality of football and and also brought trophy’s to the club.
In season 1982-1983 ICI gained promotion to the Stroud & District League Division 1 and the following season finished runners up gaining promotion the Northern Senior League, during the same season they won the Stroud Charities Cup.
Success continued in the season 1984-1985, winning the Northern Senior League Division 2 title by a colossal 10 points earning promotion to Division 1 of the Senior League.
The club at this stage had increased to three sides, the seconds and thirds were competing within the Stroud League, there was also an Under 18 competing in the County League,
The following two seasons saw them win the Northern Senior League which was probably their most successful spell as a football club,
During these two seasons the club did not take up the offer of promotion to the County League, a number of reasons were behind the decisions , the club could not afford the step up and did not have the back up in terms of committee ( A number of players held the posts of secretary and treasurer etc ),
The club went into a bit of decline from there and after a number of relegations the first team ended up in Stroud League Division 2, they were also reduced to two teams,
Brockworth Albion Youth Football Club was founded by Brian Masters in the 1967-68 season and played at Pound Farm in Brockworth until the mid 70’s when the youth side was folded. It was reformed in the 1998/99 season and up to date runs under 7’s, 8’s, 9’s, 10’s, 11’s, 12’s, 13’s, 15’s and 16’s and play at Mill Lane playing fields and Brockworth Enterprise School in Brockworth.
