Historical Timeline.
May 06: First meeting in an attempt to start a rugby club for Camelford at Masons Arms in Camelford. Attended by: Nic Osborne, Mick Weaver, Noel Etherington, Keith Lovegrove, Ian Elford, Steve Knight, Jonny Harris & Jon Ponting. Interest was expressed in trying to establish the club.
June 08: Dave Clarke approached Nic Osborne to see if the idea of the Rugby club was still possible. At a meeting at Sir James Smith’s School, it was agreed that a club would be established with the following people’s support: Nic & Alison Osborne, Dave Clarke, Keith Lovegrove, Ian Elford, Jon Ponting, Ray & Pam Cole, Dave Lamb & Dave Salisbury.
Thurs 17July 08: First training session of Camelford RFC took place at Sir James Smith’s School.
July 08: The current club badge designed by Nic Osborne was adopted as the club logo.
September 08: Jon Ponting became the clubs first Captain. CRFC embarked on its first season of rugby; playing 16 full fixtures (41 different players represented the town), a junior section was established.
21 Sept 08: First game for CRFC at Bodmin RFC. Bodmin eventually won by 31- 5. Jon Ponting became the clubs first try scorer.
12 Oct 08: First home game (at SJS School), over 120 people turned up to watch the club record its historic first win beating a Bodmin 2nd team 8-5.
Tues 14 Oct 08: CRFC were accepted as a member club and so affiliated to the county body.
Tues 20 Jan 09: Full club constitution ratified. Dave Salisbury was elected as the first club president.
8 May 09: First CRFC Awards Dinner, held at The Darlington Inn, Camelford.
Sept 09: Began to play all home games on the football ground at Tintagel Playing Fields & use Tintagel Cricket club as clubhouse.
April 10: Tim Williams becomes Club Captain.
Thurs 11 March 10: Ashley Morgan, Tim Williams & Josh Parker are selected in the Cornwall Clubs squad gaining the club’s first representative honours.
June 2010: CRFC became a full member of Cornwall RFU and The Rugby Football Union.
September 2011: Home pitch moved to Field adjacent to Tintagel Playing fields thanks to the support of Dave Tremain. The pitch became known as “Parc Tremain”.
Sun 13 Feb 11: Jamie Evans, Scott Thompson & Rob Wells played against Roseland for Cornwall Clubs.
Sat 5 March 11: Jon Ponting is first CRFC player to 50 appearances.
May 2011: Ian Young became president of CRFC.
8 Oct 11: CRFC play their first ever Cornwall league
division 2 match at Illogan Park.
23 Dec 11: Sad loss of club President Dave Salisbury following a long illness.
January 2012: Ashley Morgan & Scott Thompson are selected for Cornwall Clubs Squad.
Apr 12: Completed first league season. Ashley Morgan becomes Captain for 2012/13 season.
4 May 12: Received the “You’ve Earned It” award from St Austell Breweries & Cornwall RFU for their efforts in developing a club & honouring all league fixtures.
29 Sept 12: First league points gained for a 27-27pts draw against Redruth Albany.
3 Nov12: First league victory against Lankelly-Fowey, away, winning 21- 5.
10 Nov 12: Fielded first Development Team in a friendly at Hayle. Karl Culver was given the honour of captaining the side.
30 Mar 13: Completed league season finishing above Redruth Albany and Lankelly-Fowey in Tribute Cornwall Division 2.
During this campaign CRFC drew 27 to 27 with Redruth Albany and beat them 27 – 22. Lankelly-Fowey were beaten twice 21 – 5 and 17 – 10.
20 Apr 13: CRFC embarked on its first ever mini tour when a side travelled to Kings Norton RFC to play a memorial game for the late Dave Salisbury.
Apr 13: CRFC finish their 2nd league season with 3 victories a draw and 2 “walk overs”.
24th May 2013: 5th Annual Awards Dinner at Bowood Golf Club/Hotel.
10th June 2013: Rob Hawken becomes Club Captain.
Sept 2013: Camelford consolidate their place in Cornwall 2.
Oct 2013: Nic Osborne becomes President of CRFC.
16th Nov 2013: In the fixture at St Just Jon Ponting and Ian Elford became the first men to represent the club in 100 games.
Feb 2014: Karl Culver and Matt Etherington play for Cornwall Clubs.
April 2014: CRFC finish third in the Cornwall 2 league. Played 26 games winning 9 of these.
CRFC secures new field in Camelford to be developed for the 2014/15 season.
16th May 2014: 6th Annual Club Awards Dinner at Bowood Golf club and Hotel.
9th June 2014: Mike Wilshire elected Club Captain.
September 2014: CRFC moved to new home at Lane End in Camelford and make The Conservative Club in the town their home venue for entertaining their opposition.
6th Sept 2014: CRFC unveil new kit in cup game at Roseland.
8th November 2014: CRFC fielded a Development squad at Tamar Saracens.
The club finished the season in 3rd place in the division and in all games the playing record was: won 11, lost 12, and drew 1.
10th May 2015: CRFC hosted Chesthunt RFC for a tour game, drawing 19 to 19.
15th May 2015: 7th Annual Awards Dinner, held at Bowood Park Golf club and Hotel.
June 2015: Carl Rockell was elected as Club Captain for the 2015/16 season. Camelford cement their position in Cornwall League Division 2.
