Clacton's Sunday side registered theri first defeat of the season at the hands of a strong Witham team.
The hosts won the toss and invited Clacton to bat first on what looked like a decent wicket. A chaotic start to the match ensued, with several no balls leading to the removal of the Witham opening bowler from the attack.
This proved to be a mster stroke with the replacement (Lawrence) eventually accounting for the Seasider's top 3 batters. Clacton skipper Parkes, continued his return to form from the previous day with a patiently constructed 74, punishing anything loose (3x6's) and accumulating where necessacery.
A cameo from Mathews saw him hit 2x6's before being caught, leaving Sumner (32*) to support Parkes to the end of the 40th over.
Clacton opening duo of O'Brien and Mann made a tidy start against a strong Witham batting order. The latter eventually picked up opposition skipper Hawes, who chopped on to give the visitors the breakthrough.
The home side maintained good partnerships throughout despite the introduction of left arm spin twins Mathews and Sumner. Some good work in the ring from Joe 'Zeus' Fowler to pick up a run out gave a boost to the fielding side, with Mathews picking up the set Godwin not long after.
Despite the efforts in the field and with the ball (Mathews 3-38), Clacton couldn't quite get into the tail, Witham running out winners by 5 wickets.
Advanced Protection MoM, K Parkes for his 74*.
