Season finishes with defeat on the road but Gill secure Western League status for next season.

Gill ended the season in disappointing fashion with a 4-1 midweek defeat at Hengrove.

On a good playing surface Gill made a promising start and were looking lively with Jordon Clapp striking the post when well positioned and the Grove keeper acrobatically tipping a well struck Tom Jarvis volley over the crossbar.

However a mix up at the back allowed the Hengrove striker to run through on goal and slot home to give the home side an early lead. Hengrove doubled their advantage soon after with a well struck shot squirming underneath the dive of keeper Reece Bannister. The game was all but decided just before half time when a misplaced pass was again intercepted by the Hengrove frontman to confidently finish and leave the Gills an uphill task trailing 3-0.

An improved second half once again saw the Gills looking dangerous going forward especially when linking play from midfield. The Gills were given a lifeline when a cross from James Boyland was volleyed in by Max Westlake which evaded the otherwise impressive Hengrove goalkeeper.

Whilst the Gills pushed to get back in the game and continued to create chances the deficit was restored with a high cross being bundled in. Thanks to Hengrove for their hospitality.

A frustrating night for the Gills and disappointing way to end the season, however with results going in the Gills favour they are now safe bar an extraordinary run of results for other teams in the relegation zone.

It has been a rollercoaster of a season for the Gills which saw the club rock bottom of Division One and without a win until mid October. With a change of fortune and smart signings the Gills went on to beat Champions Brislington 1-0 away from home and treated the Woodwater Lane faithful to a 3-1 demolition of promotion hopefuls Nailsea and Tickenham.

Other stand out results of the season include a 3-0 win in the Boxing Day derby against play off hopefuls Wincanton Town, a 9-3 win against Longwell Green, a 9-0 win against Tytherington and coming back from 2-0 down against Radstock to snatch a late victory in a massive game in the pursuit of survival.

We would like to put on record a huge thank you to all of our loyal supporters, chairman, committee members, groundsman, management team and volunteers for their unwavering commitment and dedication towards the club.
