A very hard defeat to take this one, against the league leaders we controlled most of the possession early on but went behind from a counter attack having them pinned in their own half. This was their first attack & chance, we regrouped & continued to control the midfield battle getting our just rewards from the spot as a super ball down the line from Conor Leigh seen Ross Molloy nip in ahead of their Goalkeeper who took him down to win us a penalty. The ever reliable Just Doyle slotting home to draw us level.
Second half there were chances at both ends as the home side grew into the game on what was a horrendous pitch, a wasted headed chance from a corner should of put them ahead again, we worked the ball very well in the middle of the park all game as Doyle & Sweeney were enjoying their battles but the good football didn't reward us with a goal & this gave the home side a chance with them winning a penalty of their own after a sloppy challenge.
2-1 down with twenty minutes to go we threw everything at them but just couldn't find that final ball to open a stubborn defence.
When Striker Alex Murray did get through he was clearly taken out by the on rushing Goalkeeper but unbelievably the Referee didn't award a second penalty instead given them a goal kick!!! An extremely hard pill to swallow with the performance put in.
Wishing Ballyfermot United FC the best of luck with the rest of their campaign #thecastle⚫⚪⚽
