2. History 2

The Akkies staged its first ever overseas tour in 2006, travelling to the south of France to take on St.Martin de Crau Merinos XIII.

In 2007 the club accepted entry to the newly renamed RLC National division (formerly National League Three) and fielded three mens teams during a successful season 'on the road' at Weetwood, whilst redevelopment work took place at West Park. The club ended the season with a historic tour to Barcelona - becoming the first British side to face local opposition on Spanish soil - defeating a Catalan Universities XIII in Girona.

The Akkies launched its first ever womens team in 2008 and ventured overseas for the third successive year - this time travelling to Limerick, Ireland, as guests of Treaty City Titans RLFC.

The club again fielded mens sides in the RLC Yorkshire Premier and Regional divisions in 2009. However, both sides were outshone by the club's burgeoning womens side who came within points difference of claiming the WRLC Yorkshire title and a place in the national play-offs.
