In the 2009/10 Season, Newent RFC had without doubt its finest period to date. The First XV topped the South West Division Gloucestershire 3 league table, winning promotion by playing fast and exciting rugby. To cap the season, the team went on to win the Forest of Dean Combination Minor Cup, beating Cinderford 3rd XV comprehensively in the Final which was held at Bream RFC's ground.

2010/11 saw the 1st XV head the Gloucestershire Div 2 table, gaining promotion to Gloucestershire Div 1 by playing great rugby against some strong opposition.

Again in 2011/12 Newent RFC had a magnificent season.
For the latter part, Andy Addis left Ledbury RFC to join us as Head Coach and his impact was almost immediate. Our 1st XV narrowly missed promotion to Gloucestershire Premier Division. However, 1st XV skipper Tristan Veale lifted the Forest of Dean Combination Junior Cup for the second time in 3 seasons after his team defeated Cinderford Stags at Regentsholme by 20-10.

To end a great year for our Club, the 2nd XV played very well to win the Forest of Dean Combination Minor Cup. Nathan Goulding's 2nds beat Berry Hill Wappers by 20 - 9 in a pulsating cup final at the Recreation Ground watched by a large crowd.

RFU Level 2 Coach Addis was joined by Steve John (again from Ledbury) to act as his Assistant. At the end of the season, the coaching team was strengthened by ex-Gloucester & England player Peter Kingston, as Backs Skills Coach and by Ross McMillan (who currently plays in the Premiership for Northampton) as our Forwards Skills Coach.

The entire squad has a buzz about next season and there is great spirit & friendship between all the players & coaching staff - the coming season bodes well for Newent!

Our aims are promotion for the 1st XV to the Gloucestershire Premier Division and to cement further success for our 2nd XV and Junior & Mini teams. We also look forward to continuing success in future cup competitions.
