If there is a light at the end of the tunnel (no, it's not an oncoming train), the other teams with relegation worries all failed to score a goal last week. Sowerby Utd lost 5-0 at Red Star, Illingworth SM lost 7-0 at Midgley whilst Denholme Utd went down 3-0 at Shelf Utd.
After the next two difficult matches there will be six games left, two against Midgley, Shelf Utd and Illingworth away, plus home games against Red Star and Denholme. The games against Illingworth and Denholme will be hugely significant.
Sowerby Bridge won at title rivals Shelf FC last week and have eight wins and two draws from ten games. One of those draws was a 5-5 thriller at Hipperholme with the Rams coming back from 3-0 down after 17 minutes to earn a well deserved point.
The lack of goals is a concern but, to be fair, so is the manner in which some of the goals have been conceded. If the players can build on last week's second half performance and get shots on target more regularly, a much needed upturn could be a vital boost for the end of season run in.
