Nuneaton Borough have confirmed the signing of former Birmingham City centre half Dan Preston.

Most most recently with Sutton Coldfield Town, Dan has played for several non-league sides around the Midlands having progressed come through the academy at St. Andrew's.

"Dan is a big, powerful, experienced defender who has Football League, National League and National League North experience with Hereford, Telford and Tamworth" said Assistant Manager Dale Belford. "This is a massive season for Dan he is somebody I have worked with previously and has all the qualities we have been looking for in the defensive areas which will add further competition to the squad."

Apart from Tamworth, Preston will, potentially, face another three of his former Clubs this season, in the shape of Hednesford Town, Stratford Town and Stourbridge, where he was a teammate of Luke Benbow.

"Dale signed me at Tamworth a few years ago I got on really well with him" said Preston, adding "I played with Benbow at Stourbridge so know what he’s about, his signing is a huge statement of intent, we should be looking to be in the mix for the playoffs at the least and I want to be part of that.

“Jimmy tried to sign me a few years ago for Barwell but the time wasn’t right, however, I’ve played against Nuneaton a few times and enjoyed being at Liberty Way. I can’t wait for the matches with Tamworth, I have played in the derby before and I know how big a game that is.”

Preston made his debut for Birmingham City, as a seventeen year old, away to Sunderland in the League Cup. Two loan spells with Hereford in League Two followed for the Birmingham native before he moved in to Non-League Football with lengthy stays at AFC Telford United and up the road at The Lamb with our neighbours Tamworth.

Welcome to the Boro’ Dan.
