Rules for Touch Rugby – O2 Touch Rugby Laws Quick Guide.

Chris Hughes R.F.U. kindly gave us a copy of ‘O2 Touch Quick Guide’ which I have made some suggestion to enhance the continuity and enjoyment of the ladies game. (TO BE DISCUSSED BETWEEN PARTICIPATING CLUBS).

1 A team consists of a maximum of 14 players, no more than 6 are allowed on

the pitch at any time. (This should be flexible in accordance with the size of the playing

area).

3. Substitute players must remain within the interchange area. All interchanges must

take place in this area and only when the player being substituted has crossed the

side line.

3 The attacking team must start with a tap-off from the centre of the half way line.

The defending team must be back 10 metres for the start of play.

4. After a team has scored, the play begins again with a tap in the middle by the

non-scoring team.

5. The person who takes the role of dummy half cannot score. If the dummy half is

touched while in possession of the ball, it’s a turnover. (???? Or should we count

this as another touch).

6. A Touch is contact between a player in possession and a defending player. A touch

includes contact with the ball, body, hair or clothing and may be made by the

defending player.

7. After being touched, the player touched must roll the ball between his/her legs.

This is a ROLLBALL.

8. The attacking team continues play until they have had 6 touches. After being

touched 6 times, the ball is handed over to the other side.

9. When the ball carrier is touched all defending team members must retreat 5 metres.

10. If an attacking player makes a pass that goes to ground, providing the ball is going

backwards the attacking team may retains possession.

11. When the ball is thrown forward, dropped forward, knocked on, thrown into touch,

by the attacking team this will result in a turnover.

12. When a player is penalised, his/her team must then retreat 10 metres.

13. PENALTIES: To take a Penalty, place the ball on the ground, let go of the ball,

touch the ball with your foot, then pick up the ball and pass.

* If the defending players do not retreat, they are offside. PENALTY. (Back 5mtrs)

* If a touch is considered to be too strong. PENALTY.

* Offside: When the defending players have not retreated 5 metres. PENALTY.

* Forward pass: When the ball is passed in front of the player who was in possession

of the ball. TURNOVER PENALTY.

* Touch and pass: When the person who is touched then passes the ball. PENALTY.

* Overstepping the mark: When a player, who has been touched, takes more than

three steps after the touch. PENALTY.

* No Voluntary Rollball or no touch: When the player is not touched and rolls the ball

between their legs. PENALTY.

* ROLLBALL: Players must not roll the ball more than one metre between the legs.

PENALTY.

* Obstruction: Obstructing a touch from the defending side. PENALTY.

* Deviation: When a defender changes his/her direction before retreating straight

back 5 metres. PENALTY.

For minor offences, e.g. bickering with referees, shouldering, leg trips, etc, the player will be sin-binned for five minutes without replacement. (Sin-bin time can vary depending on the duration of the game, maximum sin bin time 5 minutes)

Foul play of any nature (the referee being the sole judge) will result in the offending player being sent from the field of play without replacement. (Sin Bin or Red Card)

In the event of a tie, each player is required to drop one player. If after 2 minutes the scores are still tied, a further player is dropped. This process is repeated until a winner emerges. (This is at the discretion of the teams engaged in the games)
