CLUB CHARACTERS ....."Who's who" around the club ! 21 of 21

21. COLIN HUTTON

Club role : Umpire, committee member and one of those who always has some kit in the car just in case !

Previous clubs : Blackfield, North Baddesley, Ordnance Survey, Newport Gentlemen, Marine and a few matches for Southampton Touring Club

Batting style : Dour right hand, but capable of holding an end up !

Bowling style : Used to be able to bowl a bit of right arm seam up

Best cricketing moment : Bowling spells of 12-9-3-0 and 12-7-7-5 for the OS. And bowling 23 consecutive overs for N. Baddesley, taking 6-50 alongside former Saints manager Ian Branfoot at Sarisbury Green.......he could still stand afterwards, I was knackered ! Also watching team mate Bryan Horner score 160 not out in an evening league match in The Parks.....its still the record score in the leagues history.

Worst cricketing moment : Like John Clarke, seeing the chairman, Alan George, at the closure of the final OS committee meeting...... a really sad evening ! Losing as OS captain to an eight man Calmore team and seeing some of the players in my team not choked by the result......I resigned the following morning as that defeat hurt too much

Funniest cricketing moment : Playing a tour game for the Newport Gents in the fog at RAF St Mawgan. It was so thick the scorers and outfielders couldn't be seen from the middle and every incident had to be relayed to them by word of mouth ! Trying to direct fielders to field the ball was hilarious ! As the opposition captain said at the toss, "We're all here, you're on tour and we've taken time off work.....lets get a game in"

Favourite ground : Lynton and Lynmouth.........so picturesque, and Braunton........it used to be a road to play on !

Least favourite ground : Hoglands Park on a dreary night.......no, ANY night

Five favourite cricketers : Barry Richards, Dennis Lillee, Michael Holding, Malcolm Marshall and Tim Tremlett who I played in the same sides at school with for several years

Favourite post match pub : You'll never beat the old Newport Inn after a Newport Gentlemens victory over the Newport Inn ! Such a shame it has now closed for good.

Least favourite post match pub : Has to be the Pub in the Park
