Poole Football Supporters' Club was formed in 1946, and provided both financial and organisational support to Poole Town Football Club until 1998, when the current football club directors chose to sever ties with their supporters. The Supporters' Club elected to continue with their objectives to support football in the Borough of Poole, and in February 1999 formed Poole Borough F.C. appointing Kim Sturgess and Paul Arnold as managers. Completing the highly experienced management team, Kim and Paul brought in Pete Morrell as player/coach and Steve Miles as physio, and were also joined by Brian Lamb as club secretary. The club are nicknamed the Hornets due in part to their first team strip of black and gold stripes but also to revive the memory of Poole Hornets one of the two clubs in the 1880's who merged to form Poole Town.

Poole Borough started their first season, 1999/2000 in Dorset County League Division 1 and played their home games at Branksome Recreation Ground. The club were highly successful, finishing runners up in the league and securing the League Cup after a 6-2 victory against Dorchester United at Cuthbury (report). Probably their greatest achievement in their debut season and not surpassed since was in the Dorset Senior Cup away to Dr Martens League Weymouth F.C, where they scored first before holding the Terras to a 1-1 draw (report). Borough also lead in the replay, again at the Wessex Stadium, before finally going down 3-1.

Season 2000/01 saw Borough move their home ground to Upton Recreation Ground and in another successful season lead Dorset Division 1 for the whole season up until the final week, when Holt United overtook them to lift the Championship. The team also lost narrowly to Wessex League to Wimbourne Town in the Senior Cup going down 2-1 after a goal in the last minute of extra time (report).

Season 2001/02 Borough finally secured the Dorset Division 1 title, winning the league by six clear points from their nearest rivals Dorchester United. They also went on to win the League cup for the second time, with a 3-2 win against Chickerell United, so becoming the first team in 6 years to lift the Division 1 'double' (report). Not to be outdone Borough's Reserves also secured the corresponding league and cup double in Dorset Division 4 N&E, loosing only one league game in the process.

Borough were duly promoted to the Dorset Premier League for the 2002/03 season, where they finished a credible 7th position and followed up 8th at the end of the 2003/04.

Season 2004/05 saw the teams most successful one to date under the management of Tony White. They finished runners-up in the Dorset Premier League and also lifted the Premier League Cup, the latter secured with a 2-1 win over old adversaries Holt United. At the start the following season they also lifted the Edgar Maidment Trophy, the traditional DPL Curtain raiser to the season, with a 3-0 victory against Hamworthy Recreation.

Unfortunately with Tony White stepping down from the manager's job mid-way through the subsequent campaign, Borough struggled to build on their success and there followed three seasons where the club were unable to break into the top six.

However with the recruitment in February 2008 of Paul Harding as manager with Keith Whatling his assistant, the clubs fortunes saw an immediate turn around as they built a strong squad of players from the Poole/Bournemouth area, and in their first full season the team reached the semi final of the League Cup and secured runners-up place in the league, only two points behind champions Portland United.

But Borough were unable to build on their success and after Keith Whatling left the club the following season, Paul Harding stepped down in November 2010, leaving Kieran Campbell to manage the side through to the end of the season where he steered the club to 14th place.

Keith Whatling returned to the club as manager for the 2011/12 season but after some poor results he resigned in January 2012 and Pete Morrell took over the reigns for the second time, with the club finishing 16th. With Pete deciding not to continue in the role for the 2012/13 season, his assistant Mike Rees was promoted to manager, but after only two wins from the first 18 league games, Mike was replaced by former player Craig Shanley who brought in Ryan Stringer as assistant and Dan Pidgley as coach. However despite a significant improvement in performances and overall well being within the club, the new management team were unable to stop the team from finishing bottom of the league. The promotion of Wincanton Town to the Western League and the decision of Chickerell United to drop down the the Dorset Senior League for financial reasons meant Borough retained their place in the Dorset Premier League.

The 2013/14 Season, Borough finished the campaign in 16th Place, despite a good start to the season picking up 13 points from the first 10 games. At the end of the season Craig decided to step down as manager, Mike Rees took over as Chairman and brought in Luke Phillips for the first team job. Luke brought in Justin Windle & Gary Williams as first team coaches.

Club Ground

Since 1999 Borough have played at Branksome Recreation Ground and Upton prior to moving to Turlin Moor at the beginning of 2001/02 season. The club has since invested substantially in order to lay a new pitch, erect barriers to meet ground grading criteria and establish their own Club House within the Pavilion at Turlin Moor
