About the team

Rotherham Cliftons 1st XV currently competes in Yorkshire 4, having gained promotion from Yorkshire 4 during the 2014-15 season.

In 2009-10 season, the club convincingly won the South Yorkshire Merit Table and then thought it time to return to the full league structure.

In 2010 the team re-joined the Yorkshire Leagues, competing in Yorkshire 5 for the 2010-11 season.

In their first season back in Yorkshire 5, the 1st XV showed a lot of promise, but finished a disapointing 8th.

In 2011-12, the team showed an improvement on the previous year, both in performances and with their final league standing, as they finished 6th. The team also featured several players from the clubs Junior Colts, who had progressed through the clubs Junior system.

During the 2012/13 season, the 1st XV continued to improve and mounted a challenge for one of the promotion spots, just falling short at the end of the season, finishing 4th. The team continued to blood young talent from within the club, with several of the previous years Colts cementing a place in the 1st XV and several of the current crop of Colts making their debuts.

In 2013/14 the team is looking to continue to improve, with this years targets a serious challenge for promotion, while maintaining a committment to blood young players from within the clubs junior ranks.
