As the current COVID-19 situation has brought the end of the current season to an early close we await the league to ratify the decision the merge of Unite MK with MK Robins. This is therefore the end of an era for Wolverton Town / Unite MK although the Wolverton Town name carries on with the Veterans team who have proved they are one of the top two teams in the area along with MK Irish Veterans. I would like to thank all the players, coaches, management, physios, committee and volunteers over the years from the beginning in September 2004 when we started out in the Sunday League with players from Wolverton and Bradwell Common down at Wolverton Park through to the Radcliffe School, Greenleys New Park and finally Manor Fields, also playing at Crownhill, Walnut Tree, Brooklands, Derwent Drive and Wicken Sports along the way. Managers included Craig Fallin-Hallin, Colin Main, Nathan Hunt, Nick Boothroyd, Stevie Cullum, Craig Bicknell, Steve Greenwood, Dean Bland, Gary Marling, Chris Pottinger, Scott Humphries, Steve Mahoney, Dave King, Sim Stewart, Mike Ringer, Mark Robinson, Paul Fisher, Jermaine Cuffy, Billy Denner, Karl Ainsley, Roger Bannister, Lee Kimberley, Jacqui Speed and the current management team of Nick Crossley, Dave Barron, Lee Bearman, Jay Hart, Mark Snowden and Alex Russon. Many of these also served in committee positions. Prolific scorers included the likes of Chris Pacey, Mark O’Connor, Gary Flaherty, Leon Jones, Steve Flux and the Mundy brothers, John, Paul and Mick, to the recent crop of Luke Little, Myles Braham, Jamie Parker and Cole Rawson. Stubborn defenders like Scott Barton, Richard Clarke, Mike Rudniak up to Sam Bearman. Keepers from Rick Fabrizio, Jay Bewick up to Aaron Halai. There are so many I could name and every player has played their part of the last 16 years. I will never forget the Soccer AM appearances of Paul Mundy and Stephen Todd scoring wonder goals along with my own son Richard Greenwood winning Goal of the Season in a Lucozade Sport competition. All those minutes videoing games came into some use. We won trophies for tournaments, league and cups although they have been thin on the ground in recent years. I won’t be sad to lose the Treasurer position, it’s been difficult to get money off players who say they have no cash then buy a pint down the pub or club. I was there with my hand out at the changing room exit getting match fees to having to raise CCJs for the worst offenders. I have supported the club financially through my business along with a few, but never enough, sponsors. As I slowly reach my retirement years this has got to come to an end and this is the main reason the club has now to merge to survive. If I have missed anyone out please include yourself in with the thanks. Christine Greenwood 29 March 2020
