Colts cricket 2 of 2

2. Junior code of conduct

Cricket is a great game, which we love playing – and of course, it’s even more enjoyable when you win. But it is just a game and in light of this we have some guidance for junior players, their parents and carers to follow.

We would ask junior players to:

• play within the rules and respect officials and their decisions.

• respect opponents, whether they win or lose

• help team mates

• respect everyone regardless of gender, ability, cultural background or religion

• be on time for training and matches or inform their coach or team manager if they are going to be late

• wear a Wivenhoe club shirt for competitive matches

• wear appropriate sportswear for training and coaching. And bring some sunscreen.

• complete a club membership form and pay fees on time. Those that don’t may not be eligible to play in matches.

• not smoke, drink or have any drugs on club premises at any time or while representing the club

• respect and care for kit and facilities – and not just our own

• wear helmets – for batting, keeping when standing close to the stumps, and close fielding – as recommended by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB)

• pay attention and not misbehave. Our coaches give up their valuable free time to coach and if they feel the need to discipline a junior player for poor behaviour on more than a couple of occasions, then they will be asked to leave the club.

All coaching is provided by qualified coaches and young leaders, who are trained and have been screened for their suitability for working with young people. We are also ECB Clubmark accredited.
