Former Captain Mark 'Vinny' Vincent came to the club as a friend of the Austin's, having played for Oxfordshire, so already a class above. Over the nine years he was at the club, he pretty much carried the clubs batting, often averaging well over 50 runs a match, notching up 16 centuries in the process. But more importantly, he was a great club man, travelling from Wiltshire every Sunday to play for the Astons, and was a great role model for the youngsters in the club, who to this day, now grown up, can be seen drunkenly eulogising about his batting and his tour antics.
